We’ve put together this simple and quick guide to help you with self booking. Follow these 5 steps to get your trip sorted:

5 steps to book Machu Picchu by yourself

Step 1. Check your visa requirements to enter Peru here.

Step 2. Check and buy your tickets (3 different options):

  • Tickets to visit the Machu Picchu site here
  • Tickets for the Machu Picchu site and Machu Picchu mountain here
  • Tickets to visit the Machu Picchu site and Huayna Picchu here. (Huayna Picchu is the tallest and toughest hike of the mountains).

Step 3. Check and book your train tickets from Cusco to Aguas Calientes here. (The tracks from Cusco to Ollataytambo are closed from January to April for maintenance, so you’ll most likely be on a bus to Ollataytambo and then a train to Aguas Calientes).

Step 4. Get your return bus ticket from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu here.

Step 5. Print all your tickets and remember to bring your passport as you have to show them both at the entrance gate.

Is Machu Picchu closing?

No, Machu Picchu isn’t closing in the near future. You may hear rumours, though the only thing that closes is the Inca Trail for the whole month of February each year (maintenance). Machu Picchu is open.
