Thinking of visiting Colombias capital!? Here’s our quick guide to the city, giving you all you need to know before visiting and helping you to prepare for an awesome trip!

How do I get around?
Taxi – Bogota is bigger than you expect, so you’ll need to take transport regularly. We used the Uber app pretty much all the time, easy & cheap plus you know what price you’re paying!
Bus – The local bus is also an option, you pay $5000COP for a top up card and then $2500COP per journey, there just may be a bit of walking involved dependant on where you get off as the bus routes are generally a straight line up & down the city.
How long do I need?
3/4 days is good, this will give you enough time to see everything without it being a mad rush. If you’re trying to weigh up spending more time here or in other places, we’d say go for other places. Overall it’s a fairly average city in terms of the number of things to see and do, our favourite part was the Buena Vista trip.
Am I safe?
Yes. Before going, any time we mentioned Colombia quite a few people would take a sharp breath and say we needed to be careful, so we weren’t sure what to expect. In reality, Bogotá is completely fine. Yes there’s a few more eyes on your belongings compared to other countries, though stay street wise, particularly in crowded areas and avoid going out once its dark. If you want to visit communities on the outskirts of Bogota like we did, go with a local guide and you’ll be fine.
What’s the currency?
Cash or Card?
In the city you’ll be fine to pay with card 80% of the time, it’s worth carrying a small amount of cash just incase.
